The Pier has been a landmark of downtown St. Petersburg since 1899 when Peter Demens hooked up the Orange Belt Railroad to a half-mile wharf. D. F. Brantley started the first Pier Pavilion in 1895, but it is the 1926 Million Dollar Pier, torn down in 1973 to house today's inverted pyramid structure, that long-time residents remember. The Pier was renovated in 1988 to include the shops, galleries, boutiques a restaurant and food court on the first level to offset the annual subsidy. |

The Pier has two parking lots - the Dolphin Parking Lot and the Pelican Parking Lots. Both lots are available for events taking place at The Pier and in the downtown area. Parking fees are $3 per car on a daily basis with Special Event parking being $5 per car. The Dolphin Lot is a "Pay and Display" lot with meters. The meters do NOT give change, but DO take credit cards. Tour buses are welcome and park for free. Valet Parking is also available for a nominal charge of $4 per car and $6 for Special Events. Disabled parking is available in the Dolphin Parking Lot (17 spaces) and The Pier's bright red trolleys are equipped to transport wheelchairs. Only four disabled spaces are available near The Pier building, but all visitors are allowed to drop guests off at the front door and then park the car in either the parking lots or along The Pier approach. The approach has meters on them, for those who are going to be stopping by for a shorter visit, and the cost is 75 cents per hour, for a three (3) hour maximum stay. |
