You can fish at The Pier 24 hours a day on the catwalk on the east side of The Pier or from the "approach" (bridge leading to and from The Pier), with the exception of the first 300' feet on the west end. Florida's new shoreline fishing license requirement takes effect August 1, 2009, so resident anglers who fish for saltwater species from shore or a structure affixed to shore must have a shoreline fishing license or vessel/shoreline combination license. Fees vary from $2.00 to $20.00.
The Pier Bait House does not sell fishing licenses.

Nonresident anglers need a regular nonresident saltwater fishing license to fish from shore or from a vessel. Short-term and annual nonresident fishing licenses cost between $17 and $47. You can also feed the pelicans during opening hours for The Pier Bait House. Since 1923, there have been pelican feedings at The Pier. It is part of the history here. Tourists and visitors love to see the pelicans fly in and get fed with the fish bought whole from a supplier strictly for this purpose. The supplier makes sure the fish are free of parasites and are to be used whole, so no fish parts are being given to the pelicans. When the fish are plentiful in the ocean, the pelicans naturally go there first. When there is a limited supply in the ocean, the pelicans come to The Pier.
The Pier Bait House has rescued over 100 pelicans who have been caught up in fishing line, or have been hooked by fisherman. Our visitors have learned more about how to care for pelicans because of these efforts.
Feeding pelicans carcasses and bones that are harmful to them is not good and should be stopped. Our visitors are simply feeding the birds who come to visit The Pier, like they have for generation after generation.
